Body oil accumulation (and removal) from leather explained

If you’ve been a tech for any length of time, you’ve seen it. On furniture head- or arm-rests, on steering wheels, on hand-bag handles, on leather jacket collars, oil accumulation is apparent wherever skin comes in repeated contact over time with leather upholstery. This is true of both people, as w...

COVID-19 and our maintenance product line

Our cleaner, conditioner, and protector products all have an anti-microbial ingredient added to them. On the product label indicating what the anti-microbial is effective against, there is a rather large list, including Hep B and C, HIV, Staph, SARS, etc. This list includes the human coronavirus, bu...

Re: Changes to the PR-1 usage recommendation

Here's an update to the PR-1 usage. Our most recent version of PR-1 has changed yet again. Happily, the newest version is now interacting quite well with denatured alcohol again. Yay! That's not much help to techs in CA, where it's much harder to get DA now, but for the rest of you, DA is once again...

Removing oil extractor residue

I was talking with a tech in CO a few days ago, and he mentioned to me that he'd found a good tool to remove oil extractor residue after oil extraction was complete. Both techs and our DIY kit customers have mentioned this a number of times over the years. After extensive oil extraction, even after ...

Product Status field added on Pro Products webpage

I've added a Product Status indicator for all the products on the professional products page. For those of you who order online, this will tell you if the product you are ordering is in stock, or back-ordered. If a product is in stock, it will say so in green. If a product is back-ordered, there wil...

Re: Economy Leather Cleaner from AdvLeather.com

To chime in from the technical side, the formulation is already in place, so it's not something that would that would take much time for us to add to the product line. The elimination of the degreasing agent, while reducing effectiveness against specific issues like the removal of oils, grease, wax,...

Re: Colouring 2 toned leather

Stuart, Welcome to the forum. Glad you are here. SG-4 is basically 3 parts our cleaner, and 1 part PR-1 (our primer resin). The cleaner preps the surface, and the resin acts as a tie-coat between the existing finish and whatever you apply after (filler, color or clear-coat). As you are in the UK, yo...

Re: Color change

One method that may help both with coverage and adhesion is to use a foam brush as you spray on the first coat. The mechanical action of brushing the finish as you spray improves the bond between the leather and the first coat by forcing it into the texture and bridging the gap between droplets. It ...
