One method that may help both with coverage and adhesion is to use a foam brush as you spray on the first coat. The mechanical action of brushing the finish as you spray improves the bond between the leather and the first coat by forcing it into the texture and bridging the gap between droplets. It also allows you to move color along welting, or into seams and creases. I only do this for the first coat because I know my finish bonds well to itself, and using the brush on subsequent coats runs the risk of disturbing previous coats.
